Robert S. Lopez Collection 1890-1985 1940-1980

This collection consists primarily of printed materials dating from 1890 to 1985 that Professor Lopez gathered over the course of his research career. The bulk of these publications are off-prints of scholarly articles discussing numismatics published in specialized research journals in Italy and other European countries between 1940 and 1980. Also included are a small number of single-issue journals, small monographs, typewritten papers, personal letters, and handwritten notes.

Robert Sabatino Lopez was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1910. He received a Dottore in Lettere degree from the University of Milan (1932), and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin (1942). He taught history, literature, and medieval and economic history in Italy between 1933 and 1938, and emigrated to the United States in 1939.
